Decision Makers and Experts Gather to Discuss Arab Perspective for Shaping Future of Internet |
Under the theme "Arab Perspective for Shaping the Future of the Internet", and under the joint patronage of Lebanese Minister of Telecommunications Boutros Harb and ESCWA Executive Secretary Rima Khalaf the city of Beirut hosted on 26-27 November 2014 the Third Annual Meeting of the Arab Internet Governance Forum (AIGF-III) at the Movenpick Hotel. The Forum, which was held with the strategic partnership of the Lebanese Ministry of Telecommunications and Ogero Telecom, was preceded by a pre-event on 25 November 2014 for capacity building on Internet Governance. |

Air Pollution from Land Transportation in Lebanon |
Under the patronage of Lebanese Minister of Environment Mohamad Al Machnouk, ESCWA, IPT Energy Centre (IPTEC), the Lebanese Ministry of Environment (MoE) and the UN Development Program (UNDP) today held a conference on “Air Pollution from Land Transportation in Lebanon: Reality and Solutions”, at the UN House, Riad El Solh, Beirut. Concerned stakeholders, experts and the media attended the event. |

The Director General of AIDMO Visits UN-ESCWA |
UN-ESCWA Executive Secretary Mervat Tallawy met yesterday with Director General of the Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization (AIDMO) Mohamed Bin Youssef. The aim of his visit was to discuss the strengthening of cooperation between AIDMO and UN-ESCWA as well as the possibility of signing a new comprehensive and qualitative agreement on the close cooperation between the two organizations that began in the 70s in the area of industrial development and mining. |

Survey of Economic and Social Developments in the Arab Region 2015-2016 |
On 10 November 2016, ESCWA launched its Survey of Economic and Social Developments in the Arab Region 2015-2016, which highlights the colossal direct and indirect economic and social impact of the five-year old conflicts and political transitions in the region. Director of ESCWA Economic Development and Integration Division Mohamed el Moctar Mohamed el Hacene presented the Survey. He said, “The economic and political uncertainty in the region continues to restrain the general prospects for growth, job creation and stability.” |

Workshop on Effective National Technology Transfer System in Lebanon |
Under the auspices of Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri, ESCWA and the Lebanese National Council for Scientific Research (NCRS), in cooperation with the Ministry of State for Administrative Reform, organized a workshop on National Technology Transfer System, on 23 February 2017, at Grand Serail, Beirut. The workshop is part of the regional ESCWA project on setting up national technology transfer systems in five Arab countries members of ESCWA, namely Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman and Tunisia. |

New Website on UNESCWA Regional Advisory Services |
UNESCWA has just launched a new website showcasing the activities of its Programme Planning and Technical Cooperation Division (PPTCD), which plays a support role in planning, coordinating and monitoring UNESCWA projects and activities. This website will provide access to UNESCWA services as well. |
