On 4 and 5 April ESCWA held the 12th session of its Statistical, at the UN House, Beirut. The meeting launched the first Arabic-language Gender Statistics Toolkit and eLearning module.
 
The opening session of the meeting saw two statements by Director of the ESCWA Statistics Division Juraj Riecan and President of the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) Ola Awad, delivered on her behalf by PCBS Director General a.i Muhammad Al Omari.

Beirut, 11 November 2010 (UN Information Service) — ESCWA today launched at the UN House in Beirut a global report on “Combating Poverty and Inequality: Structural Change, Social Policy and Politics,” by the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD).

Presentations were delivered during the launch by UNRISD Executive Director Sarah Cook and Acting Director of ESCWA Economic Development and Globalization Division Tarek Alami.

UN-ESCWA Executive Secretary Mervat Tallawy met yesterday with Director General of the Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization (AIDMO) Mohamed Bin Youssef. The aim of his visit was to discuss the strengthening of cooperation between AIDMO and UN-ESCWA as well as the possibility of signing a new comprehensive and qualitative agreement on the close cooperation between the two organizations that began in the 70s in the area of industrial development and mining.
