ESCWA Transport Committee adopted today the proposal for the formation of a working group on the harmonization of institutional frameworks and legislation in the transport sector in the ESCWA region. Transport officials of ESCWA’s 14 member countries adopted this proposal at the 11th Session of the ESCWA Transport Committee, which was held on 22-24 March under the auspices of Lebanese Minister of Transportation, Ghazi Aridi.

In the week of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against women (25 November), Arab parliamentarians participate in the second regional workshop on the “Roles of Parliamentarians in the Implementation of CEDAW”, organized by UN-ESCWA and the United Nations Division for the Advancement of Women (UNDAW), on 26-28 November 2008 at the UN House, Beirut.

The United Nations is marking this year's World Environment Day under the title: “Think, Eat, Save”. In Beirut, ESCWA is organizing a roundtable in cooperation the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Food Establishments Recycling Nutrients (FERN) International at 10 am on Wednesday, the 5th of June 2013 at the UN House, Riad Solh Square, Beirut.

Beirut, 25 Oct 2011 (UN Information Service) —ESCWA Technology Centre (ETC) opened today an expert group meeting on “Promotion of South-South Cooperation in Technology Transfer”. The meeting is organized in collaboration with the Federation of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture in Lebanon (FCCIAL), and held at the Chamber of Beirut. Speakers at the opening session included Director of ETC Fouad Mrad and Director General of the Industrial Research Institute in Lebanon Bassam Frenn.
