The 'Inventory of Shared Water Resources in Western Asia' Launched in Stockholm |
ESCWA and the German Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) launched the Inventory of Shared Water Resources in Western Asia on 3 september at the World Water Week in Stockholm. This publication is the first effort led by the United Nations to comprehensively identify and assess the state of transboundary surface and groundwater resources in the Middle East, and was prepared in close consultation with ESCWA member countries as well as regional and international experts. |

UN Launches World Investment Report 2011 in Beirut |
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) flows to the ESCWA region dropped by 15 per cent between 2009 and 2010, settling on 57 billion USD from the former 67 billion USD. Save for Oman and Lebanon, this drop affected all ESCWA countries. These are the highlights of the presentation by Abulgasim Abdullah, Chief of Financing for Development Section at ESCWA Economic Development and Globalization Division, at the launching of World Investment Report 2011 (WIR 2011). |

ESCWA Marks International Women’s Day |
ESCWA marked this year's International Women's Day in the presence of a host of diplomats accredited to Lebanon, music and movie stars, representatives of civil society and the media, in addition to ESCWA staff . The event, organized in cooperation with the Lebanese American University (LAU), featured film screening and music and play performances highlighting discrimination against women and gender inequalities. |

ESCWA and BGR Discuss Water Cooperation |
ESCWA Executive Secretary Bader Omar AlDafa discussed today the issue of water resources in the region with Wilhelm Struckmeier, head of the groundwater department at the German Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR). Technical cooperation between ESCWA and BGR dates back to 1992, and both parties work together with the overall objective to enhance the cross-country collaboration in the ESCWA region in the area of water.

Tunisia Hosts 5th International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development |
The five United Nations Regional Commissions namely, the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), and the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), are jointly organizing with the government of Tunisia “The Fifth International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development", on 4-7 November, in Hammamet, Tunisia. |

Technical Cooperation between ESCWA and Morocco |
Beirut, 16 March 2017 (Communication and Information Unit) – The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) Deputy Executive Secretary for Programme Support Khawla Mattar signed today on behalf of ESCWA a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Moroccan Minister of General Affairs and Governance Mohamad Al-Wafa on behalf of the Ministry in order to provide a framework for inter-institutional dialogue and cooperation on matters of common interest in the fields of sustainable development over the period 2017-2019. |
