Beirut, 19 March 2018 (Communication and Information Unit) – The world’s largest annual gathering of the “Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for Development” community is convening this week (19-23 March) at UN Headquarters in Switzerland, with a delegation of ESCWA experts in attendance to highlight links between digital technologies and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Arab region. |

Workshop on Effective National Technology Transfer System in Lebanon |
Under the auspices of Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri, ESCWA and the Lebanese National Council for Scientific Research (NCRS), in cooperation with the Ministry of State for Administrative Reform, organized a workshop on National Technology Transfer System, on 23 February 2017, at Grand Serail, Beirut. The workshop is part of the regional ESCWA project on setting up national technology transfer systems in five Arab countries members of ESCWA, namely Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman and Tunisia. |

The World Economic Situation and Prospects 2015 (WESP) Report discusses economic growth in many countries in Western Asia over the next two years and the repercussions of decreasing oil prices and ongoing conflicts. It also lays out the situation in Jordan, Lebanon and Yemen, notably concerning rising government debt which has started pressuring fiscal balances due to higher interest payments. |

ESCWA Tackles ICT Applications and E-Services |
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) holds a meeting to discuss challenges to the development and adoption of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) applications in the region, with a special focus on e-services in the public sector. The meeting will recommend steps to overcome these challenges, focusing on accelerating the deployment of these applications and providing effective e-services. |
