The Expert Group Meeting, organized by ESCWA in partnership with UNISDR/ROAS aims to discuss linking climate change and disaster risk reduction in order to formulate integrated policies with respect to natural disasters which are being exacerbated by climate change.

The Sixth Meeting of the Board of Governors (BOG) of the ESCWA Technology Centre (ETC) will be held on 14 November 2016 in Amman, Jordan. The BOG includes official representatives of 16 Arab countries. The activities of ETC in 2016 will be presented before the BOG, as well as the results and recommendations of the ETC Technical Committee (TC) meeting that was held on 4 October 2016. The members of the TC for this year included 35 researchers, academics, and experts from 12 Arab Countries covering all technology areas related to ETC mandate.
 

Agriculture development is a strategic tool to reduce poverty and food insecurity, increase employment in remote areas, and improve natural resources’ efficiency and productivity. Supporting smallholders to enhance their access to markets, to improve their skills, and to increase their production/productivity while protecting the environment (soil, water, air, and biodiversity) is core to achieve specific SDGs’ targets.

The Economic and Social Commission of Western Asia (ESCWA) is organizing a session titled "The Role of Renewable Energy in Socio - Economic Development in the Arab Region" on 17 Sept. 2014, with a focus on the impact of RE and EE deployment and role of SMEs in this respect, within the activities of the 5the Beirut Energy Forum (www.beirutenergyforum.com).
