Training Workshop on UNSCR 1325 and Women, Peace and Security Agenda in Sudan |
ESCWA Centre for women is conducting a training workshop in the Sudan in the framework of the implementation of the programme and technical support provided by ESCWA to support national mechanisms for ESCWA member States. The workshop raises awareness on the importance of resolution 1325, and women and peace and security agenda. It trains the participants on the development of implementation plans for the resolution including the review of the draft national plan of action, for feedback. |

Promoting Best Practices on Sustainable Rural Livelihoods in the ESCWA Region |
In December 2009, ESCWA organized an Expert Group Meeting on Adopting the Sustainable Livelihoods Approach for Promoting Rural Development in the ESCWA Region. The meeting, which was attended by 32 experts from various countries of the region, aimed to allow participants to better understand the importance of livelihood approaches to rural development, to assess its comparative advantage with regard to other approaches as well as to assess obstacles to its adoption and implementation. |

Taskforce Meeting on 2010 Population and Housing Censuses |
At its six session held in October 2004, the Statistical Commission called on ESCWA to form a regional taskforce to coordinate efforts in relation to the planning of next round of population and housing censuses. Later, the United Nations Statistics Division adopted in March 2005 a resolution on the 2010 World Population and Housing Census Programme, to be implemented from 2005 to 2014.
