25 August 2020	Use of small-scale Renewable Energy for Rural Development in Tunisia	Within the framework of the “Regional Initiative for Promoting Small-Scale Renewable Energy Applications in Rural Areas of the Arab Region (REGEND)” Project, the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), in partnership with the National Agency for Energy Conservation (ANME) and the General Commission for Regional Development (CGDR) in Tunisia, is organizing a capacity-building workshop on “Use of small-scale Renewable Energy for Rural Development in Tunisia”. This workshop, through its first session, on 26 and 27 August 2020, aims to build the knowledge, scientific and technical capacities of local officials in the context of Rural Development in Chorbane, Governorate of Mahdia, Republic of Tunisia, on Renewable Energy use in the Agricultural Sector and in developing income-generating activities in rural areas, in addition to improving their competencies in order to better manage and accompany farmers and those wishing to benefit from Renewable Energy at all levels (administrative, technical, financing, ...). This session also aims to build the capacities of local officials on gender equality, women’s empowerment, and entrepreneurship in the context of income-generating activities in rural areas through the use of Renewable Energy as alternative, sustainable, reliable and affordable energy. Through its second session, on 28 August 2020, the workshop aims to raise the awareness of Rural Women in Chorbane, Governorate of Mahdia, Republic of Tunisia, on small-scale Renewable Energy use for income-generating activities in rural context and the reduction it can provide at cost production in the current context which is characterized by a significant and continuous rise of conventional energy prices, in addition to building their capacities on gender equality, women's empowerment and entrepreneurship in the context of income-generating activities in rural areas through the use of Renewable Energy as alternative, sustainable, reliable and affordable energy.
14 January 2021	Capacity-Building Workshop of the Municipality of Chorbane on Planning, Management, and Finance	Within the framework of the “Regional Initiative for Promoting Small-Scale Renewable Energy Applications in Rural Areas of the Arab Region (REGEND)” project, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), in partnership with the General Commission for Regional Development (CGDR) and the National Agency for Energy Conservation (ANME) in Tunisia, is organizing a capacity-building workshop of the Municipality of Chorbane on planning, management, and finance (diagnosis, participatory local planning, gender integration, administrative and financial management, and development of sources of finance, …). This workshop aims to build/enhance the knowledge and practical capacities of a group of participants that includes some members of the elected municipal council of the municipality of Chorbane (Governorate of Mahdia, Republic of Tunisia) and some of the administrative/financial staff of the municipality, in relation with the best mechanisms for diagnosis and participatory municipal planning while ensuring Gender inclusion. The workshop will provide participants with theoretical knowledge and practical experience regarding methods and techniques for mobilizing traditional and non-traditional funds, including international cooperation funding and grants, in particular in the fields of food, energy and water, through the adoption of modern training methods that integrate technical theoretical presentations and practical training through case studies and work groups.

Executive Secretary of ESCWA Dr. Rima Khalaf.
21 April 2016	Arab Forum for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ARFREE): Towards Competitive Sustainable Energy Market, 3rd meeting	The League of Arab States (LAS) is organizing the 3rd Arab Forum for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ARFREE), in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, the Economic and Social Commission of Western Asia (ESCWA), the Regional Center for Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency (RCREEE), the German Agency GIZ, the European Union (EU) project “Mediterranean Energy Efficiency in the Construction Sector project-MEDENEC” and others. The event will take place on 1 – 2 June 2016 in Cairo.
18 July 2019	Focus Group Meeting 2 on the Regional Initiative for Promoting Small-Scale Renewable Energy Applications in rural areas of the Arab Region in Jordan.	In the framework of the “Regional Initiative for Promoting Small – Scale Renewable Energy Applications in Rural Areas of the Arab Region (REGEND)”, the finalization of the selection of the local community and the establishment of the Local Facilitating Team (LFT) in Jordan necessitates a Focus Group Meeting. The objective of the meeting is to finalize the assessment phase and the selection of the local community where the project activities will be undertaken as well to establish the Local Facilitation Team (LFT) in Jordan and the selection of its members.

Several representatives of national statistical offices (NSOs) from ESCWA member states as well as representatives from line ministries and other related entities took part in meeting.
