International workshop on “Region After the War” |
The workshop was conducted in partnership with the local think tank, the Lebanese Centre for Policy Studies (LCPS). The Workshop was an attempt to generate a concerted effort to tackle the developments in Iraq and to examine feasible ideas that could improve Iraqi socio-economic conditions. The Workshop concluded its proceedings with a number of recommendations addressing both socio-economic and legal aspects of the situation in post-war Iraq. The workshop was attended by 80 participants of various nationalities. |

Economic Empowerment of Women and the Promotion of the Values of Peace, Justice and Citizenship |
ESCWA Centre for Women supported the Arab Women Organisation in organising a high level conference on “Economic Empowerment of Women and the Promotion of the Values of Peace, Justice and Citizenship.” The meeting, organised in Muscat, Oman during the period 18 – 19 December, brings in academic researchers and national women machineries to discuss Arab women economic opportunities and hindering factors to women equal access into the labour market. |

Making disability visible in statistics - Side Event at the 50th Statistical Commission |
The side-event focus on means of bridging the gap between policy-makers, civil society and statisticians, which constitutes a major obstacle and a hindrance to making progress on development of policies based on evidence and thus improving the lives of persons with disabilities. It will include presentation of a generic SDG-CRPD Framework of around 100 standard indicators that links CRPD articles to SDG policy areas, including SDG indicators that countries can disaggregate by disability status. |

Management Skills Training for Iraqi Ministry of Municipalities and Public Works: Urban Planning Unit |
A total of seventy-seven senior civil servants from the Iraqi Ministry of Municipalities and Public Works (MoMPW) have participated in 5 management trainings out of 6 held by UNESCWA in Beirut. These training modules that targeted five groups of experts from the Ministry (departments of municipalities, urban planning, water management, waste water management, and solid waste management) form a component of the UNDG Iraq Trust Fund financed UNDP project to build the capacity of the Iraqi MoMPW. |

Workshop on “Coherent Efficient and Effective National Technology Transfer System in Tunisia” |
This activity falls under the Development Account (DA) project on “Establishing National Technology Development and Transfer Systems in select ESCWA member states” which aims to strengthen the capacity of select countries in the ESCWA region to create an enabling policy environment for research and development, and commercialization of research results. The objective of this workshop is to discuss the studies conducted by the national consultants with the relevant national stakeholders and building on the conclusions to go for the next steps. |
