Global Programme in Support of the 2020 Round of Population and Housing Censuses and Civil Registration and Vital StatisticsUsing the technical report on “Measuring SDG Indicators through Population and Housing Censuses and Civil Registration Data” as a reference document, the workshop aims to discuss how to produce SDG indicators based on their metadata information. The workshop will also provide a platform to further elaborate on utilizing Population and Housing Censuses and Civil Registration Data for disaggregating SDG indicators and discuss the use of geospatial information and tools for generating relevant SDG indicators from such data. Ultimately the workshop will help to achieve a common and improved understanding of definitions and methods of computation of SDG indicators.

The workshop will aim to achieve the following goals:
1. Presentation of the experiences of countries that conducted a population and housing census using tablets, and geospatial technologies during the preparation and completion stages;
2. Addressing the technical and logistical difficulties and problems encountered by the countries that used tablets during the various stages of the census and the measures that were taken to address them, as well as the lessons learned;
3. Determining the infrastructure needed to conduct the census;
4. Determining the training needs required for all the teams participating in the census process, including the cartographic work team, the geographic information systems team, and the team assigned to prepare the methodological and organizational approach to the census.

The High-Level Seminar is co-organized by the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) and hosted by the General Authority of Statistics in Saudi Arabia. It will seek a collaborative regional response to the need for economic statistics that support evidence‐based policymaking within the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The aim of this consultative meeting is to draft a collaborative road map for Arab regional preparations leading to the United Nations Conference for the Midterm Comprehensive Review of the Water Action Decade in March 2023. Discussion will include contributions to a midterm regional review report, preparations for the regional preparatory meeting, and the identification of activities that can explicitly support the Water Action Decade in the region.
