In addition to providing a regional review of the performance of Arab countries on the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), this report highlights the complexity of the issues facing young people in the Arab world, both male and female, in the attainment of the MDGs. Particular emphasis is placed upon the three pressing issues of unemployment and education, the right to political, social, and cultural participation, and health and environmental issues, and the impact of these on the attainment of the MDGs is assessed. The report also covers such matters as the right to development, gender issues, good governance and the challenges posed by conflict, while focusing on keeping matters of concern to young people at the forefront of the formulation of national and regional plans of action for achieving the MDGs by 2015.
