The impact of industrial policies on the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises is examined in this study and analytical tools for impact assessment are suggested. Industrial policies implemented by ESCWA countries to help firms access information on international standards in order to enhance their international competitiveness are analysed and information access in Lebanon is featured as a case study. Policies associated with the establishment and management of industrial zones are also examined, as is the experience in Jordan of developing industrial zones that seek to create economic opportunities from geographical clustering.
