ESCWA will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Road Union (IRU) this coming Tuesday 28 June 2016 at 11:00 AM, at the UN House, Riad el Solh square, Beirut.
Parties invited to the signing ceremony include the Lebanese Ministry of Public Works and Transport, the Lebanese Customs Administration, the General Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture for Arab Countries, The Federation of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture in Lebanon, the National Council for Road Safety and a host of concerned stakeholders.
IRU Secretary General, Umberto de Pretto will sign on behalf of the Union and Director of ESCWA Economic Development and Integration Division Mohamed El Hacene will represent the Regional Commission.
The MoU establishes common work and coordination between both ESCWA and IRU, joining their efforts to support Arab countries in the facilitation and development of land transport to strengthen economic development and regional integration.
The signing ceremony will highlight common activities to be undertaken in 2016 and 2017. It will also offer an opportunity for the media to raise questions and discuss transport-related issues in the Arab region especially during the current circumstances.
