Miss Lebanon, Martine Andraos, paid a visit to ESCWA to learn more about its scope of work and activities, namely in the area of "sustainable water", the main issue guiding her work.
Andraos met with ESCWA Executive Secretary Bader AlDafa and head of the Energy section in the ESCWA Sustainable Development and Productivity Division (SDPD), Walid Dghaili, who tackled the importance given to the issue of water resources in ESCWA's work, projects and activities. The Millennium Development Goals were a major concern for Miss Lebanon, who was very keen to know what progress has been achieved before the 2015 deadline.
ESCWA officials and Miss Lebanon agreed to cooperate in raising awareness of the crucial preservation of water resources, and of environment protection.
Andraos toured the UN building, visiting ESCWA library and printing shop. Miss Lebanon also signed the book of condolences that the UN put for the tens of thousands of the Haiti victims, among whom were UN staff.
