Thirty-five judges paid a visit to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UNESCWA) today to learn more about the UN organization, its history, mission, and structure.

The student group was greeted by the Deputy Executive Secretary of UNESCWA, Mr. Atif A. Kubursi, who briefed them on the UN, specialized agencies, and programmes, as well as specific UNESCWA programmes.

He was also joined by Mr. Hassan Cherif, former chief of the UNESCWA Social Development and Productivity Division and current UNESCWA Advisor, and Mr. Francois Farah, Chief of the Social Development Division at UNESCWA. Cherif elaborated on the political work of the UN in general, whereas Farah focused on the importance of integrated social policies in the UNESCWA region.

As part of its media strategy, UNESCWA hosts student and other delegations wishing learn more about the Commission’s structure, mission, programmes and activities.
