Executive Secretary represents UN Chief in Abu Dhabi ministerial conference

Beirut, 4 March 2019 (ESCWA)--United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) Rola Dashti represented UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at the 46th Session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), on 1-2 March.
 
On the sidelines of the meetings, Ms. Dashti met with Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain, Jordan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia.
 
She also met with UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed and OIC Secretary-General Yousef Bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen, and discussed with Mauritanian Foreign Minister Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed mutual cooperation between ESCWA and Mauritania.
 
Ms. Dashti also met with Kuwaiti Minister of Foreign Affairs Sabah Khalid Al Hamad Al Sabah who affirmed the key role of ESCWA in addressing the challenges of the region and reiterated Kuwait's support to its work.
 
Furthermore, in an interview with Al Bayan Emirati daily, Ms. Dashti addressed key development challenges in the region and stressed the cooperation between the UN and OIC to achieve prosperity and 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in member States.
