ESCWA Technology Centre holds two high-level meetings: Green technology’s role in a more responsible consumption and production

What:    ESCWA Technology Centre (ETC) is holding an expert group meeting on Green Technology Transfer, Adaptation and Investment required for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12 on responsible consumption and production. ETC technical committee is also holding its seventh meeting.

The meeting is held in cooperation with the Climate Technology Center and Network (CTCN), UN Technology Bank for LDCs and Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization (AIDMO).
 
Participants include technical experts from the region in various sectors engaged in technology related fields, representing stakeholders from the academic and research institutions, agricultural, industrial, and public and private sectors, as well as international experts and organizations.
  
Special Features: An interactive exhibition/display will be showcasing examples of green technologies that could be applied in member countries to enhance implementation of SDG 12.
 
Why:      The expert group meeting aims to promote regional cooperation in deployment of green technologies to achieve SDG 12 and will have a special focus on technologies for agricultural / food sector (with its relation to other sectors including water & energy sectors), and conflict waste management sector in the Arab region. It will also discuss green investments needed in the region to support the green transformation in these two sectors.
 
The objective of the Technical Committee Meeting is to seek guidance on the focus areas of ETC and its work programme for the coming years based on the identified key technological priorities. The meeting participants will be informed on ETC progress in the work plan.
 
In addition, participants will benefit from the expert meeting’s presentation of three technical reports that ETC is developing on green technology transfer, adaptation and investment required for implementing sustainable development goals with a special focus on SDG-12.
 
The outcome and key messages of the technical committee will be used to develop the ETC proposed work program for the coming years. The proposed work program and the report of the meeting will be further reviewed and discussed by ETC Board of Governors in their next regular meeting in November 2019.
