ESCWA has recently contributed to an international forum, which gathered high-level delegations and leading energy experts to explore how to drive change; how to drive the need for regional cooperation and planning, and the imperative of nexus solutions as part of implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

A delegation led by the Sustainable Development Policies Division (SDPD) Director Roula Majdalani and the Chief of Energy Section Radia Sedaoui represented ESCWA in the Energy Ministerial Conference and the 8th International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development held in Astana, Kazakhstan from 11 to 14 June 2017. The Forum was held under the Expo 2017 on “Future Energy”, which lasts until the 10th of this coming September.

During the Forum, organized by the five UN sister regional commissions, namely the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), the Economic Commission for Latin America (ECLAC), the Economic Commission for Europe (ECE), the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), and ESCWA, a workshop was organized on 13 June on “Developing a Regional Renewable Energy (RE) Investment Pipeline.” In this workshop, ESCWA and ECE joined hands to discuss providing knowledge on RE investment projects, covering the technical aspects of RE investment proposals, as well as the regulatory and policy requirements, that project developers and relevant country officials would need to deal with when attracting and implementing RE investments based on foreign or national capitals.
