Effective National Technology Transfer System in Egypt

Under the patronage of the Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ashraf Shihi, ESCWA Technology Centre (ETC) and the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT) in Egypt conducted a workshop entitled: “National Legislative Corrections and Institutional Policies for Effective technology transfer system,” on 11 January 2017 in Cairo.

ETC presented an overview of the project progress in five Arab countries (Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman and Tunis) and the main findings of the project.
ETC consultants, President of the Egyptian Board of Governors for Advancement of Science Alaa Idriss, and Provost of American University of Cairo Ihab Abdelrahman, presented their studies (Legislation and Road Map for Implementation; and Technology Transfer and IP policies in the Universities and Research Centers). ETC Director Fouad Mrad along with Egypt’s official representative in ETC Board of Governors and ASRT President Mahmoud Sakr facilitated subsequent discussions.

Minister Shihi commended the studies and the outcome of the project and announced his intention to propose the technology transfer and intellectual property project to the higher council he chairs so it could be adopted by universities and research centers.
