Director General of AIDMO Visits UN-ESCWA

UN-ESCWA Executive Secretary Mervat Tallawy met on 12 March 2007 with Director General of the Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization (AIDMO) Mohamed Bin Youssef. The aim of his visit was to discuss the strengthening of cooperation between AIDMO and UN-ESCWA as well as the possibility of signing a new comprehensive and qualitative agreement on the close cooperation between the two organizations that began in the 70s in the area of industrial development and mining.


 

The two parties discussed areas of cooperation at the regional level that would enable the industrial sector to increase its contribution to the Gross Domestic Product and achieve sustainable development, and find the necessary funding for it through the desired regional integration in the Arab region.

 

Bin Youssef also met with the substantive divisions in UN-ESCWA to enhance cooperation and organization of joint activities in the fields of statistics and industrial information, development of the private sector, clean energy, and the use of information and communication technology.
