Call for entries: Visual arts competition on sustainable development in the Arab region

Beirut, 10 January 2020-- The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) launched today in collaboration with the United Nations Information Centre in Beirut (UNIC Beirut) a “Visual Arts Competition on Sustainable Development in the Arab region”. Professionals and amateur photographers and artists with different backgrounds and levels of experience are invited to participate in this competition by submitting their photographs (maximum of 10 photos), or videos and infographics/animation (maximum of two), which illustrate one or more of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and how individuals can contribute to the achievement of these Goals.
 
Deadline for submitting materials is Saturday, 29 February 2020. Winners will be invited to attend the Arab Forum on Sustainable Development (AFSD) to be held in spring 2020, during which their work will be displayed. The rich collection of photographs, videos and graphics will constitute a unique inventory, which will be published on the Arab Portal on the Sustainable Development Goals”, a web platform under construction by ESCWA.
 
The panel of judges will include representatives of ESCWA, UNIC Beirut, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) and the American University of Beirut (AUB).

About the AFSD
The AFSD is an annual high-level regional meeting during which multiple stakeholders discuss coordination pathways for the implementation, follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the Arab region and the Sustainable Development Goals. Its findings and recommendations, conveying key messages from the region and its countries, will be presented at the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) held annually at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
