“Regional Roadmap for Internet Governance” in ESCWA

Beirut, 22 October 2010 (UN Information Service) — ESCWA Information and Communication technology Division and the League of Arab States (LAS) are organizing a joint Expert Group meeting on “Regional Roadmap for Internet Governance,” on 25-26 October 2010 at the UN House in Beirut. Welcome statements by ESCWA and LAS will be delivered at the opening session to be held at 9:30 A.M on 25 October. In addition, there will be speeches on the evolution of internet governance issues: from the World Summit on the Information Society to the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), and from global to regional perspectives, the LAS working group on Domain Names and Internet Issues, and the Arab Dialogue on Internet Governance and the Regional Roadmap. The meeting aims at further empowering the Arab region in public policies pertaining to Internet governance and Internet Arab domain names. Three main topics will be discussed during the meeting: (a) Details of the proposed regional roadmap, (b) Proposal for establishing an Arab IGF process, and (c) Details of proposed registry policies for the Arab Top Level Domains (TLDs) “.arab” and ".عرب" .
