Jordan and the EU Member States signed an Association Agreement on November 24th, 1997. The agreement was concluded within the framework of the Barcelona Process 1995, the goal of which is to create a larger area of peace and economic prosperity in the Mediterranean Basin. The agreement entered into force on May 1st, 2002 to substitute the Jordan-EU Economic Cooperation Agreement signed in 1977.
