The international gateway is any facility that provides an interface to send and receive electronic communications (i.e., voice, data and multimedia images/ video) traffic between one country’s domestic network fa-cilities and those in another country. In practical terms, the IGW can be either the facilities linking domestic networks to an international (often submarine) cable system or the earth station facilities that link domestic networks to a sat-ellite system.
