Created in March 2000 as an open network at the Second World Water Forum in The Hague, the Gender and Water Alliance is an informal network of more than 2100 organisations and individuals from over 120 countries. GWA is governed by an independent Steering Committee and directed by a secretariat based in the Netherlands.
