Workshop on Women's Political Participation in Lebanon

10
October
2019
Location:
Beirut, Lebanon
Event Type:
The National Commission for Lebanese Women (NCLW), in cooperation with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), organized a workshop on Women's Political Participation in Lebanon on 10 October 2019 in Beirut.

NCLW's members, together with ESCWA Center for Women's experts, discussed the broad lines of the National Commission's advocacy strategy with the political parties in Lebanon to promote women's political participation and representation and agreed on its major messages.

This workshop comes as a follow-up to a previous one organized by the two partners on 4 April 2019 with representatives of political parties on women's political participation and representation. It also contributes to the implementation of NCLW's internal action plan in relation to the political sphere, as well as the National Strategy for Women in Lebanon (2011-2021) and Lebanon’s National Action Plan on UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security that was adopted last September.

ESCWA continues to support NCLW's project on developing and implementing this advocacy strategy with the hope of increasing women's political participation and representation in central and local State institutions through future elections in line with Lebanon's international obligations.
