As part of the continuing cooperation between the State of Kuwait and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), a two-day workshop on institutional planning for the Supreme Council for Family Affairs was organized on 19-20 February 2020 in Kuwait City. The workshop brought together 17 participants from the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Supreme Council for Planning and Development.
 
During the workshop, the participants discussed the international instruments and mechanisms relevant to the intervention areas of the newly-established Supreme Council; including family, women, youth, children and persons with disabilities; and best practices and shared experiences as to the mandate, functions, and institutional resilience elements of a functioning national women’s machinery. They also had access to the different strategic and institutional planning methodologies and tools.
 
ESCWA agreed with the Supreme Council for Family Affairs on a technical cooperation roadmap towards its full operationalization.
