UN World Water Development Report 2020 - Water and Climate Change Arab Region Regional Webinar

UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science for the Arab States, in coordination with UNESCO Field Offices in the Arab Region and in partnership with the United Nations Social and Economic Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), will conduct an online webinar to launch the United Nations World Water Development Report 2020 on Water and Climate Change (WWDR).

This report is an authoritative review of the world's freshwater resources that focuses on a different strategic water issue each year. The report offers best practices from around the world and in-depth analyses to provide policy and decision-makers with the tools to facilitate informed decision making for sustainable management of our water.

The event will be held on 17 June 2020, which coincides with World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought, which are important challenges in the water-scarce Arab region that are being exacerbated by climate change. The webinar launch will review the key climate change challenges facing the region as identified by the Regional Initiative for the Assessment of Climate Change Impacts on Water Resources and Socio-Economic Vulnerability in the Arab Region (RICCAR) This will be followed a presentation of the key findings and policy recommendation of the WWDR2020. A commentary provided by UNICEF will bridge the issues of water and climate change in light of COVID-19, which will be followed by a moderated discussion.
