The Statistics Division at the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is pleased to convene the Training of Trainers (ToT) Workshop on Gender Statistics Curricula (11-13 May, 2016) in the Dead Sea, Jordan. The TOT is based on a standardized learning curricula for gender statistics geared to improve statistical capacities of the national statistical offices in the Arab countries.  The participants will also constructively contribute to the finalization of the relevant elearning software.  It is expected that the trainers will implement the course at the country level thereafter.

The course on Gender Statistics responds to repeated demands for more and better statistics on women and men, and for gender-based indicators. It aims to improve the capacity of national institutions in data collection and dissemination of sex-disaggregated statistics and gender-sensitive indicators to monitor measure and analyse progress in achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment. In addition, the course aims to strengthen understanding of the national institutions of users’ demands including entities responsible for mainstreaming gender in policies and programmes.
