The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development demands the robust engagement of an expanding group of actors, including Parliamentarians, in understanding, tailoring, implementing, monitoring and following up on progress particularly at the national level.

The main objective of this seminar was to enhance the awareness of Parliamentarians in the Arab region of the importance of their role in implementing the Agenda as well as the different ways in which their work could serve and follow-up and review at the national level. The seminar focused on integrating the 2030 Agenda across the different functions of Parliamentarians, including representation, legislation and oversight. It addressed the broader framework of the Agenda including the preamble, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and national/regional processes. The Seminar also explored the knowledge needs of parliaments and set the scene for future capacity building activities.

The seminar was organized jointly by ESCWA and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and featured contributions by regional/international organizations.
