Regional Meeting of Civil Society on Sustainable Development in the Arab Region

-
23
April
2018
Location:
Beirut, Lebanon

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development emphasized in the preamble the importance of partnerships and joint efforts between governments and all stakeholders to achieve the goals and targets of sustainable development. It also recognized the role of civil society in contributing to the implementation and follow-up and review (FUR) of the 2030 Agenda. The engagement of civil society in the Arab region in achieving sustainable development given the challenges, gaps and opportunities in the region is thus of paramount importance.

The regional meeting of civil society therefore aims to review the efforts of civil society organizations to engage in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the Arab region and its FUR processes. It also aims to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experiences among organizations as well as launch a platform for dialogue on sustainable development.

The meeting will result in a set of recommendations for future civil society action. These recommendations will also feed into the Arab Forum for Sustainable Development 2018 (AFSD-2018), which is the primary regional mechanism for the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda in the Arab region. The outcome of AFSD gives voice to the Arab region and sets out key messages emanating from the regional dialogue that are presented at the 2018 High-Level Political Forum (HLPF).

Participants in the meeting will include a wide range of regional civil society organisations and networks working in different sectors in and across Arab states.

Registration through this link is limited to invited organizations.
