UN-ESCWA Iraq Task Force implemented the second training on management skills targeting fifteen senior administrative staff from the Iraqi Ministry of Planning and Development Cooperation (MoPDC). The was opened with a welcome note by the Executive Secretary in the presence of the Iraqi Chargee D’Affaires. After the opening, Mr. Riad Tappuni (Team Leader of the UNESCWA Iraq Task Force) briefed the participants on UN-ESCWA’s activities and its efforts to support sustainable development and regional integration, highlighting its work to support the reconstruction of Iraq. The two-week training was executed by the International Management and Training Institute – IMTI (www.ymca-leb.org.lb) with the participation of experts from both UNESCWA and UNDP. Mr. Mohsen Helal (UNESCWA Regional Advisor on WTO issues) talked to the participants on the challenges Iraq faces to join the WTO. Mr. Abdelilah Dewachi (UNESCWA Regional Advisor on Communications and Computer Networking) introduced the participants to the latest developments concerning the introduction of E-government initiatives, with focus on the experiences of the UNESCWA member countries. The Iraqi participants also visited several Lebanese institutions to get exposed to Lebanese experiences in public sector reform and the introduction of modern public sector management practices.
