The objectives of the meeting include the following: 

1. Widening the scope for analyzing Israeli policies and practices by Israel since the onset of the occupation, and identify past and potentially future trends therein;
2. Examining different levels of the impact of the occupation on the Palestinian people, their society and economy, from the-short term to the long-term impacts;
3. Examining existing Palestinian coping mechanisms their dynamics, potential and long-term impact;
4. Identifying gaps in knowledge and further research needed to provide more targeted support to Palestinians living under occupation to mitigate the impact of the occupation, especially supporting coping mechanisms.

 The meeting will include six sessions that will cover the following topics: 

1.  The context: Israeli matrix of control in the occupied Palestinian territory since 1967; 
2. Fragmentation, Dependency and de-development: Israeli policies and practices and their long-term structural and developmental impact; 
3. Long-term impact of the occupation and its policies on the living conditions of Palestinians (first part);
4. Long-term impact of the occupation and its policies on the living conditions of Palestinians (second part);
5. Coping mechanisms utilized by Palestinians to mitigate the impact of occupation; 
6. Looking forward

A number of Palestinian, Arab and international experts will participate in the meeting. They are drawn from a wide range of expertise, including sociology, economics, political science and development, particularly with experience related to the occupied Palestinian territory.
