ESCWA, UNICEF and other partner organisations organised a series of virtual Expert Group Meetings (EGM) to discuss initial findings of a Situation Analysis of Women and Girls in the Middle East. The five virtual EGMs gathered experts from the UN organisations, independent experts and academics to examine the initial draft of the Situation Analysis and provide substantive comments on data presented and its initial analysis. The Situation Analysis of Women and Girls in the Middle East aims to provide a comprehensive picture of the life journey of girls and women in order to identify major areas of inequality for women and girls in the region, as well as existing gaps in gender-related data.

During the period 08 – 20 April 2020, five EGMs were organised to discuss the four pillars:

Pillar I: Health and Well-Being
Pillar II: Education and Livelihood
Pillar III: Freedom of Violence and Discrimination
Pillar IV: Participation and leadership

Aِِِِn additional meeting was organised to discuss cross cutting issues and the way forward.
