ESCWA is collaborating with the League of Arab States to organize the Expert Group Meeting on the Water-Energy-Food Security Nexus to increase understanding of the water, energy, and food nexus and foster interactive discussion between ESCWA Commitee on Energy and ESCWA Committee on Water Resources or their delegated representatives as well as official representatives from Arab countries in related sectors and specialized Arab and international organizations on how this conceptual framework can support efforts to improve integrated natural resources management and progress towards sustainable development in the Arab region.

The Expert Group Meeting aims to achieve the following objectives:

• Build understanding of the overall scope of the water, energy and food security nexus as a conceptual framework for advancing sustainable development;

• Examining the core elements of the water, energy and food security nexus and related components in view of framing the nexes within the context of the Arab region;

• Review case studies and examples of applying a nexus conceptual approach in strategic areas of concern for the Arab region;

• Discuss case studies and examples of applying a nexus conceptual approach in strategic areas of concern for the Arab region;

• Discuss the benefits, opportunities and challenges of adopting a nexus approach for strengthening integrated natural resource management within the context of institutional and policy frameworks existing in the Arab region; and

• Exchange information on regional initiatives, projects and partnerships supporting Arab countries on the water, energy and food nexus.

  The meeting will be held at the Kempinski Hotel in Amman, Jordan during the period 24-25 March 2015 back-to-back with the 10th Session of the ESCWA Committee on Energy (Amman, 22-23 March 2015) and the 11th Session of the ESCWA Committee on Water Resources (Amman, 26-27 March 2015).
