Within the project Academy of ICT Essentials for Government Leaders in the ESCWA Region (AIGLE), ESCWA (the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia) held the Workshop on Assessment of Achievements and Future Perspectives for the Sustainability of the Academy of ICT Essentials for Government Leaders in the ESCWA Region (AIGLE), in Beirut, from 21 to 22 December 2015.  The Workshop aimed to discuss the achievements made within the AIGLE Academy project and its components, present AIGLE virtual learning platform, review the progress in the implementation of AIGLE national training plans, as well as to deliberate on the future visions and potential scenarios for the sustainability and development of the Academy.

The Workshop involved the participation of 29 experts from 11 Arab countries, namely from Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, the United Arab Emirates, Sudan, Syrian Arab Republic, and Tunisia; and participants included experts who have participated in the preparation and review of the Four AIGLE training modules, in addition to the AIGLE national partners and coordinators who worked closely with the ESCWA team on the development and implementation of national training plans for the AIGLE modules.

The Workshop addressed the following: (1) Progress and accomplishments in the implementation of the AIGLE project; (2) AIGLE virtual academy; (3) National training plans and progress in implementation; (4) Assessment and future perspectives for sustainability of the AIGLE project.  It concluded with a discussion among the experts who proposed their visions and ideas for the sustainability of the Academy.  Workshop participants agreed on the importance of the AIGLE project and the pressing need in the Arab region for the AIGLE training modules, which necessitates the continuation of efforts to allocate the financial resources required for its sustainability. Furthermore, participants emphasized the need for ESCWA's support in the area of implementing the national training plans on the AIGLE modules and in the coordination amongst the Academy partners from Arab countries, as well as in contributing to the exchange of expertise and lessons learned and the periodic update of case studies from the Arab region.
