The ESCWA Administrative Services Division is holding a training session on English Writing for the United Nations. The training is the result of close collaboration between the Conference Services Section and the Human Resources Section at ESCWA and the Learning, Leadership and Organizational Development Section at OHRM. The training will be delivered by Mr. David Hattem, English Language Teacher, Language and Communications Programme, OHRM, and will be co-facilitated by Ms. Deva Alexander, Translator/Editor, ESCWA.
 
The English Writing for the United Nations course is designed to enhance the skills and build the confidence of staff members who draft a variety of United Nations materials on various topics. The objectives of the English Writing for the United Nations course is to enable participants to enhance their skills in the following areas:

  • Principles of good writing (audience and purpose, concise writing, politically sensitivity, etc.)
  • Effective use of grammar and vocabulary
  • Writing for publication
  • Applying editorial guidelines

  • Day 1: Principles of Effective Writing
  • Day 2: Drafting for Impact
  • Day 3: Drafting for Publication
  • Days 4 and 5: Individual Coaching Sessions
