The Technical Secretariat of the Joint Arab Ministerial Council for Water and Agriculture (the Technical Secretariat AMWC and AOAD) organized in cooperation with FAO and ESCWA the second high-level joint committee for water and agriculture on October 19, 2020. The meeting held during the 2020 Cairo Water Week followed up on the progress made in implementing the recommendations of the first meeting of the joint committee, and to discuss the themes and contents of the draft action plan 2021-2025 to activate the Cairo Declaration 2019. Different views from Arab countries were shared and totally agreed on the importance of a harmonization between the agriculture and water sectors for an integrative path towards development. ESCWA provided support to cross sectoral coordination by disseminating knowledge, enhancing capabilities, developing scientific tools, and promoting integrated and coordinated policies on food and water security in Arab countries which enhance the implementation of the sustainable development goals for the year 2030 (SDGs). ESCWA indicated that it will also support Arab countries, through its program of work, to implement the action plan agreed upon to implement the Cairo Declaration and activate it at the national and regional level.
