Desert Research Center is almost the oldest scientific research center in Egypt. It was officially opened on 30th December 1950 under the name of the Institute of Fuad I for desert research (IFDR) .After the revolution in 1952, it became under the name of Desert Research Institute (DRI).

وزارة الزراعة واستصلاح الاراضي. يعد مركز بحوث الصحراء أقدم مركز بحث علمي في مصر. افتتح رسميا في 30 ديسمبر 1950 تحت اسم معهد فؤاد الاول لأبحاث الصحراء .وبعد قيام ثورة 1952، تغير اسمه و أصبح معهد بحوث الصحراء . ثم صدر المرسوم الرئاسي رقم 90 لعام 1990 بإنشاء مركز بحوث الصحراء التابع للوزارة.
