Tunisia, Libya and Morocco new members of ESCWA Advisory Committee |
Beirut, 27 September 2012-- Ms. Rima Khalaf, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) chaired the second meeting of the Advisory Committee this year on 18 September 2012. For the third year in a row, the Annual Digital Arabic Content Forum was jointly organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN-ESCWA), the Arab Regional Office of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU-ARO), and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of Egypt under the auspices of the League of Arab States (LAS). ESCWA Participates in Rio +20 |
On 20-22 June 2012, the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) took place in Rio de Janeiro, capturing global attention and participation. Some 12,000 government and civil society representatives attended the conference, including heads of State and ministers from more than 190 countries. At the conclusion of Rio+20, the outcome document “The Future We Want” was approved and more than 700 pledges of financial support (totaling US$513 billion) were made. |
