2 November 2016	ESCWA Technology Centre Convenes Technical Committee	ESCWA Technology Centre’s technical committee held its meeting on 4 October 2016 in Amman, with experts representing regional organizations, scientific institutions, and research and industrial centres of 12 Arab countries. The meeting was held in accordance with the ETC Statute to give guidance to the Centre on its work plan and such technical issues that relate to its work. It was also meant to identify countries’ priorities in the areas of science, technology and innovation.
26 January 2017	Future of Syria among Regional Commission’s Priorities ESCWA to Release 2nd Phase of Relevant Programme Tomorrow	The second phase of the “National Agenda for the Future of Syria (NAFS)” programme at ESCWA will be released in a plenary meeting tomorrow Friday 27 January 2017 at the United Nations House in Beirut. The meeting, which opens at 10:00 AM, will present the recommendations and final document of the Agenda’s Phase I as the “Strategic Policy Alternatives Framework-Post Conflict Syria,” and the vision of its Phase II.
11 December 2014	Ministerial Session Gathers Eminent Thinkers, Discusses Social Justice and the New Development Approach	Eminent Arab thinkers met today, at the 28th ministerial session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), held in Tunis, to discuss the theme “Social justice in the policies of Arab States”. The first ministerial panel tackled the topic “Social justice and the new development approach”, discussing the absence of consensus over the definition of social justice and social protection; and the importance of social, economic and political participation as tools for achieving social justice.

11 December 2014	Regional Commission Discusses Implications of Syrian Crisis on Jordanian and Lebanese Economies	The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is organizing an expert group meeting (EGM) on “The Implications of the Syrian Crisis on the Economies of Jordan and Lebanon” on Thursday, the 4th of July 2013 at its headquarters, Riad El Solh Square, Beirut. The meeting will be held with the participation of Jordanian Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Ibrahim Saif and Lebanese Minister of Economy and Trade Nicholas Nahas.
11 December 2014	ESCWA Meeting on Infrastructure Investments and Public-Private Partnerships Concludes, Issues Rabat Declaration	In partnership with the Ministry of Equipment and Transport of the Kingdom of Morocco, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) held an expert group meeting on “Unlocking Infrastructure Investments and Mobilizing Financial Resources in the Arab Region,” from 17 to 18 April 2013 at the Ministry of Equipment and Transport, Rabat.

11 December 2014	ESCWA Chief Economist Launches World Economic Situation and Prospects 2013, Reiterates Commission's Call to Achieve Regional Integration	Abdallah AlDardari, Director, ESCWA Economic Development and Globalization Division and Chief Economist, today said Economic situation of the Arab region can be characterized by its polarizing economic performance between major energy exporters and other Arab countries. Major energy exporters, mainly of GCC countries, have registered a stable growth with constantly growing domestic demand through active fiscal policy. On the other hand, political instability and social unrest clouded economic situation of other Arab countries, namely Mashreq, Maghreb and Arab Least Developed Countries.

22 April 2016	International Mother Earth Day	On 22 April of every year the world marks the International Mother Earth Day. This year’s theme is “Trees for the Earth”. Earth Day aims to refocus the world’s attention on the need to protect the environment in order to keep it healthy for current and future generations. This year’s Earth Day coincides with the signing ceremony of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, which came on the heels of last year’s agreement on the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda with its high focus on protecting the environment and the earth as well.
