Environment experts in Arab region raise the alarm, agree on key actions to support natural resources |
Environment experts from the Arab region wrapped up a two-day meeting on Thursday at the League of Arab States (LAS) headquarters in Cairo, Egypt that explored means by which societies in the Arab region can address risks arising from pollution and natural resource depletion, conserve terrestrial ecosystems to achieve a healthy and productive environment, and shift to more sustainable consumption and production patterns. |

Integration of Social Justice Principles into Policy-Making |
A crowd of Arab ministers and experts have agreed on the importance of ESCWA continuing to increase its technical support to Member States to implement the social dimension of the 2030 Agenda based on the approaches developed to serve the complementary nature of the Agenda. It was also agreed to implement training workshops for Member States on the use of the handbook prepared by the Secretariat of ESCWA to integrate the principles of social justice into policy-making, including social protection policies. |

High Level Seminar on the Future of Economic Statistics for the Arab region |
The High-Level Seminar is co-organized by the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) and hosted by the General Authority of Statistics in Saudi Arabia. It will seek a collaborative regional response to the need for economic statistics that support evidence‐based policymaking within the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. |

UN Deputy Secretary-General Asha-Rose Migiro said on Saturday that the Arab region is emerging as a true leader in development – from burgeoning intra-regional investment in infrastructure to energy security. The Arab countries and people are doing more and more to contribute to one another’s’ development. “It is not an exaggeration to say that the Arab Region is one of vast historical and cultural richness. Today this wealth is, in many cases, complemented by economic prosperity,” Migiro said. |

Kuwait Hosts Ninth Session of ESCWA Committee on Energy and the Regional Workshop on Parameters Influencing Oil and Gas Pricing |
Kuwait will be hosting the ninth session of the ESCWA Committee on Energy on 12-13 June at Regency Hotel, Kuwait. The Session will kick off on Wednesday 12 June at 10:00AM with the participation of representatives from member countries specialized in the field of Energy. Election of officers will follow in accordance with the Arabic alphabetical order employed by the United Nations, whereby Libya will assume the chairmanship of the session, Lebanon and Egypt the vice-chairmanship and Morocco the rapporteur. |
