Beirut, 10 December 2020--Qatar and the United Arab Emirates ranked second and eighth respectively among the world’s top 10 richest countries, while Egypt and the Sudan ranked first and third respectively among the 5 least expensive countries, according to a new report released today by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). |

Major Issues on International Economic Agenda Focus of UNCTAD-UNESCWA Workshop |
“The pace of globalization is accelerating, and in turn both the challenges and opportunities facing our member countries are increasing,” said UNESCWA Deputy Executive Secretary Atif Kubursi. “The situation in the current round of WTO negotiations is critical and it is very important that our member countries are best prepared for the upcoming deliberations,” he said. Kubursi was speaking at the opening today of a three week training course at the UN House, Beirut, in cooperation with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). |

Statistical Indicator and Data Dissemination in Western Asia Countries |
Upon the request of the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) in Khartoum, the International Comparison Program (ICP) Regional Office for Western Asia (WA) region at ESCWA organized a workshop on “Statistical Indicator and Data Dissemination in Western Asia Countries,” on 17 and 18 February 2015, under the patronage of State Minister Jamal Ibrahim Mahmoud. The workshop was chaired by Head of CBS Yassin Al-Haj Abdin. The workshop aimed at raising awareness on the importance of the ICP and its results. |
