Libya Socioeconomic Dialogue Project technical meeting: Peer review of the three Baseline Studies' final drafts: Economic, Social and Governance |
The objective of the meeting is to provide a platform for Libyan and international experts to discuss and exchange their ideas, feedback and comments on the three draft Baseline studies. The authors of the three Baseline studies will submit the updated draft of their papers and the five priorities identified in each paper; whereas the international experts will enrich the discussions with international experiences and best practices for participants to discuss and exchange views and guidance to prepare for the final versions of the Baseline Studies and to agree on the selection of the five priorities identified by the authors. |

The Committee on Social Development was established pursuant to resolution 198 (XVII) of 31 May 1994, which was adopted at the 17th Ministerial session of ESCWA and subsequently endorsed by the United Nations Economic and Social Council in its resolution 27/1994 of 26 July 1994. The Committee was established to enhance regional cooperation through the effective participation of relevant parties in member countries in planning and implementing the programme of work of ESCWA in the field of social development. |

Qatar Hosts Regional Ministerial Meeting on Non-communicable Diseases and Injuries |
In cooperation with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) and the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) holds the Western Asia Regional Ministerial Meeting on “Addressing Non-communicable Diseases and Injuries: Major Challenges to Sustainable Development in the 21st Century”, on 10-11 May 2009 in Doha. Hosted by the Government of Qatar, the meeting comes in support of the 2009 Economic and Social Council’s Annual Ministerial Review (AMR). |

Beirut, 6 April 2020--While COVID-19 is affecting people indiscriminately, women and girls are among the most vulnerable to the impact of the pandemic. A new policy brief by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and other United Nations entities (attached) emphasizes that existing domestic violence and social challenges faced by women and girls in the Arab region have worsened. |
