27 August 2019	Libya Socioeconomic Dialogue Project technical meeting: Peer review of the three Baseline Studies' final drafts: Economic, Social and Governance	The objective of the meeting is to provide a platform for Libyan and international experts to discuss and exchange their ideas, feedback and comments on the three draft Baseline studies. The authors of the three Baseline studies will submit the updated draft of their papers and the five priorities identified in each paper; whereas the international experts will enrich the discussions with international experiences and best practices for participants to discuss and exchange views and guidance to prepare for the final versions of the Baseline Studies and to agree on the selection of the five priorities identified by the authors.
21 February 2018	Mother language as a tool of self-expression and openness to the world	The United Nations marks today the International Mother Language Day. At the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), Arabic, English and French are the official working languages. But the regional commission headquarters in Beirut gathers employees from all over the world who bring along a rich mixture of languages and identities.

22 June 2015	Committee on Social Development, 10th Session	The Committee on Social Development was established pursuant to resolution 198 (XVII) of 31 May 1994, which was adopted at the 17th Ministerial session of ESCWA and subsequently endorsed by the United Nations Economic and Social Council in its resolution 27/1994 of 26 July 1994. The Committee was established to enhance regional cooperation through the effective participation of relevant parties in member countries in planning and implementing the programme of work of ESCWA in the field of social development.
11 December 2014	Qatar Hosts Regional Ministerial Meeting on Non-communicable Diseases and Injuries	In cooperation with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) and the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) holds the Western Asia Regional Ministerial Meeting on “Addressing Non-communicable Diseases and Injuries: Major Challenges to Sustainable Development in the 21st Century”, on 10-11 May 2009 in Doha. Hosted by the Government of Qatar, the meeting comes in support of the 2009 Economic and Social Council’s Annual Ministerial Review (AMR).
11 December 2014	UN Information Economy Report 2010 Launched in Beirut	Beirut, 14 October 2010 (UN Information Service) — The UN Information Centre in Beirut (UNIC-Beirut) launched today the Information Economy Report (IER) 2010, entitled “Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), Enterprises and Poverty Alleviation.” The report was issued by the Geneva-based UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
6 April 2020	ESCWA & partners warn: violence against women has increased due to COVID-19; Women will lose twice as much as men in terms of jobs	Beirut, 6 April 2020--While COVID-19 is affecting people indiscriminately, women and girls are among the most vulnerable to the impact of the pandemic. A new policy brief by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and other United Nations entities (attached) emphasizes that existing domestic violence and social challenges faced by women and girls in the Arab region have worsened.

31 May 2021	Capacity-Building Workshop for rural women on "Food Manufacturing, Safety and the Best Methods of Food Packaging and Preservation"	Within the framework of the “Regional Initiative for Promoting Small-Scale Renewable Energy Applications in Rural Areas of the Arab Region (REGEND)” Project, the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), in partnership with the Municipality of Akkar Al-Atika, is organizing a capacity-building workshop on “Financial Management, Accounting, and the Economic Benefits of Access to Sustainable and Secure Energy”. This workshop will build the capacities of the rural women in Akkar Al-Atika in the fields of financial management, accounting, cost accounting, and pricing of rural products. The workshop will also demonstrate the economic benefits of sustainable and secure energy, and its positive impact on rural development in Lebanon.
11 December 2014	Major Challenges Facing the Region on the Agenda of the First ESCWA Arab Economics Forum	Mr. Marwan Kheireddine, Lebanese Minister of State, Dr. Rima Khalaf, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of ESCWA, Ambassador Angelina Eichhorst, Head of the Delegation of the European Union, and Mr. Rida Saidi, Tunisia’s Minister of Economy, will open the First ESCWA Arab Economics Forum at 10:00 am on Friday 23 November 2012 at the ESCWA headquarters, Riad Solh Square, Beirut. The Forum will conclude on 24 November 2012.
