11 December 2014	ESCWA Marks World Water Day	As is customary since 1993, the United Nations celebrated World Water Day on 22 March. In Lebanon, ESCWA marked the day through a seminar held at the UN House in Beirut under the theme: “Water for Cities: Responding to the Urban Challenge.” Lebanese Minister of Water and Energy Gebran Bassil gave patronage to the event, which was co-organized by the Association of the Friends of Ibrahim Abdel Al (AFIAL) and the German Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR).

11 December 2014	Bahrain and UNESCWA to Hold Meeting on Social Policies	In the run-up to the “National Conference on Social Policies in Bahrain” being organized by the Bahraini Ministry of Social Development and UNESCWA in Manama on 24 and 25 April, Bahraini Social Development Minister Fatima bint Mohamed Al Beloushi hoped the conference would be an opportunity for dialogue and partnership to establish social policies for the Kingdom that are based on scientific planning. She also hoped it would lead to a national consensus on social policies between the Ministry of Social Development and concerned experts from the public and private sectors.
11 December 2014	East and West Embrace in ESCWA Concert	Music lovers flocked to the Maronite Cathedral of St. George in Downtown Beirut, Lebanon, last week to attend a special classical concert held on the occasion of the 35th Anniversary of ESCWA. The Commission’s Executive Secretary, Bader AlDafa, and the German Foundation Podium Junger Musiker had jointly extended the invitation to a concert entitled “Orient Meets Occident: the Arabian Passion according to J. S. Bach.”
11 December 2014	ESCWA Supports Arab Region Transition into Green Economy	ESCWA opened today its meeting on “Economic Policies Supporting the Transition to a Green Economy in the Arab Region” at the UN House, Beirut. The meeting is held in cooperation with the Institut des Finances Basil Fuleihan, the UN Environment Program (UNEP), and the League of Arab States.
11 August 2016	LAU and ESCWA Conference on Women, Peace and Security Concludes, Launches Beirut Call for Action	The international conference on “Prioritizing Women, Peace and Security on the Arab Agenda" concluded by launching the *Beirut Call for Action.* The conference was organized by the Institute for Women’s Studies in the Arab World (IWSAW) at LAU and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in partnership with the Danish Centre for Research on Women and Gender (KVINFO) from 8 to 10 August 2016 in Beirut.
