Committee on Transport, 15th session |
The fifteenth session of the Committee on Transport represented a continuation of the efforts made by the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in the field of transport, given the effective role of transport in achieving regional integration. At this session, the Committee reviewed the progress made in that regard since its fourteenth session, which was held in Amman on 9 and 10 October 2013. |

To mark World Water Day 2014, ESCWA cooperated with the Association of the Friends of Ibrahim Abdel Al, the Association of Lebanese Industrialists (ALI) and the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in holding a seminar entitled "The Water-Energy Nexus: Issues and Challenges", on 21 March, at the Order of the Press in Beirut. |

Concluding its Ministerial Session, ESCWA Urges Continued Efforts for Region's Peace and Stability |
At the end of its 26th Ministerial Session, the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia Thursday (ESCWA) called on its member countries to continue working towards peace and stability in the region and tackling the roots of crises within their socio-economic development programs. The Session was held from 17 to 20 May, with the participation of Arab ministers and officials, ESCWA experts and officials, and representatives of governmental and non-governmental organizations. |

Lebanese Agriculture Minister Opens ESCWA Workshop on Sustainable Agricultural Production |
ESCWA today held a workshop on “Voluntary Sustainability Standards (VSS) to promote sustainable agricultural production, food quality and safety, environmental protection and trade in the Arab Region,” at the UN House in Beirut. The workshop was organized in cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and under the patronage of the Lebanese Minister of Agriculture Hussein Al Hajj Hassan. |
