16 October 2017	8th Session of ESCWA Committee on Women	A crowd of Arab ministers and experts have agreed on the importance of ESCWA continuing to support National Women’s Machineries in order to estimate the economic cost of violence against women in the Arab region and to implement the Action Plan for Gender Equality in line with the specificities of States. They also stressed the need to continue to support the capacity building of the Arab States to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

11 December 2014	ESCWA 27th Session to Discuss Rio+20 Regional Preparations	Beirut, 2 May 2012 (ESCWA Communications and Information Unit)- The 27th Ministerial Session of ESCWA will take place two months ahead of Rio+20, the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, to be held in June 2012 in Rio de Janeiro. The Conference will mark the 20th anniversary of the World Earth Summit that took place in Rio de Janeiro and the 10th anniversary of the United Nations Summit on Sustainable Development that took place in Johannesburg, South Africa.
14 May 2019	Leave no one behind; ESCWA and partners discuss combating marginalization in Arab region	Beirut, 14 May 2019 (ESCWA)--Recent studies show that youth unemployment’s rates in the Arab region are twice as high as the global average and 40% of the Arab population is suffering from multi-dimensional poverty. In this context, a 2-day expert group meeting (EGM) at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in Beirut discussed “Leaving No One Behind: Reaching the Most Marginalized in Selected Countries in the Arab Region,” namely Egypt, Lebanon, and Tunisia.
14 January 2021	Capacity-Building Workshop on “Improving the yield and quality of fruit tree plantings and adopting water-saving irrigation techniques and renewable energy technologies for pumping, irrigation, and water desalination”.	Within the framework of the “Regional Initiative for Promoting Small-Scale Renewable Energy Applications in Rural Areas of the Arab Region (REGEND)” project, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), in partnership with the General Commission for Regional Development (CGDR) and the National Agency for Energy Conservation (ANME) in Tunisia, is organizing a capacity-building workshop on “Improving the yield and quality of fruit tree plantings and adopting water-saving irrigation techniques and renewable energy technologies for pumping, irrigation, and water desalination”. This workshop aims to build/enhance the knowledge and the practical capacities of a group of peasants in the region of Chorbane (Governorate of Mahdia, Republic of Tunisia), with regard to improving the yield and quality of fruit tree plantings through the adoption of the best agricultural practices that are compatible with what the region is facing as a result of climate change like water scarcity, by rationalizing the use of the available water resources through using water irrigation saving techniques and renewable energy techniques to desalinate highly saline groundwater and to pump irrigation water. The workshop will provide the participants with theoretical knowledge and practical experience with regards to Water-Energy-Food Nexus, by adopting modern methods of training that integrate theoretical and practical dimensions together through the field school technology.
11 December 2014	Ninth Session of ESCWA Committee on Energy Convenes in Kuwait	The progress achieved in the field of Energy in the ESCWA member countries; the projects achieved and those planned to be implemented in member countries; and the adoption and implementation of renewable energy technologies in member countries were the main subjects of discussion by the ninth session of the ESCWA Committee on Energy, which was held at the Regency Hotel of Kuwait City on 12-13 June 2013 with the participation of representatives from member countries specialized in the field of Energy.
11 December 2014	Tallawy Guest of Honour at 5th Middle East Achievement Awards	UNESCWA Executive Secretary Mervat Tallawy said the determination of Arab women led to the achievement of a series of measures related to the progress of women and their empowerment in the Arab world. Tallawy was speaking at a ceremony held under her aegis on the occasion of International Women’s Day and organized by the Middle East Achievement Awards Institute at Burj Al Arab, Dubai, last night. The ceremony was attended by a host of political, diplomatic, economic, and cultural figures who came together to honor 5 prominent Arab women.
28 April 2015	Role of middle class as the main drivers of new Arab development model	Engaging the middle class in reshaping a future is the only sustainable way forward for the Arab region, highlighted the Arab Middle Class Report titled “Arab Middle Class: Measurement and Role in Driving Change”. For decades, the Arab development model has thrust upon generous public services and subsidies in exchange for little or no public policy accountability. However, this “authoritarian bargain” came with an expiration date. It began in the 1990s with the onset of economic structural adjustment programmes.
