5 February 2021	Workshop of rural women on packaging, customized trademarks adoption, and labeling of local products to improve their promotion.	Within the framework of the “Regional Initiative for Promoting Small-Scale Renewable Energy Applications in Rural Areas of the Arab Region (REGEND)” project, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), in partnership with the General Commission for Regional Development (CGDR) and the National Agency for Energy Conservation (ANME) in Tunisia, is organizing a “capacity-building workshop of rural women on packaging, customized trademarks adoption, and labeling of local products to improve their promotion”. This workshop aims to build/enhance the knowledge and the practical capacities of a group of rural women in the region of Chorbane (Governorate of Mahdia, Republic of Tunisia) in the field of packaging by providing them with the necessary skills regarding techniques and modern types of packaging, especially ecological ones, packaging design, branding and labeling of local products, and their best use. The workshop also aims to raise the participants ’awareness/enhance their knowledge regarding sanitary legislation and standards regulating packaging processes and their proper application, and to carry out practical exercises in packaging design, branding, and labeling of local products. The workshop also aims to provide the participants with skills regarding the conduct of product quality and cost studies, and compliance with environmental standards, and others, by adopting modern methods of training that integrate theoretical and practical dimensions together.
13 February 2021	ESCWA, the Supreme Council for Women and the Royal University for Women in Bahrain establish a Women’s Research Centre	The UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) and the Royal University for Women (RUW) in the Kingdom of Bahrain agreed today to establish the RUW Women’s Research Centre.
11 December 2014	Amman Hosts Seventh Meeting of ESCWA Technical Committee	The Jordanian capital Amman hosted the Seventh Meeting of the ESCWA Technical Committee on 18 and 19 March 2013, in the ESCWA Technology Center in the Royal Scientific Society. During the opening of the meeting, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and ESCWA Executive Secretary Rima Khalaf said that in the coming period, ESCWA will expand its activities that support the resolutions of the Third Arab Economic, Social and Development Summit held in Riyadh last January, which are concerned with Arab regional integration.

21 November 2018	Regional Commission discusses financing development with Arab and international dignitaries next week	Beirut, 21 November 2018 (Communication and Information Unit)--Private capital constraints and increased exposures to illicit finance are among the key challenges facing development across the Arab region. A score of international experts and high-level officials are gathering at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) next week to discuss solutions to better finance sustainable development in the region.
4 January 2017	ESCWA and LAS Workshop on the Outputs of the Arab IGF 2020 Initiative's Technical Cooperation Working Group	ESCWA and the League of Arab States (LAS) will hold the Workshop on the Outputs of the AIGF2020 Initiative's Technical Cooperation Working Group (TCWG), in Cairo, from 20 to 22 December 2016. The event is hosted by both the UNIC Cairo office, and the League of Arab States. The Workshop opens at 12:00 hours noon on Tuesday 20 Dec 2016 at the UNIC-Cairo Office, and continues for the remaining two days at LAS premises, starting at 10:00 hours daily.
11 December 2014	Arab Implementation Meeting Concludes with “Dubai Document”	Dubai hosted the deliberations on the sustainable development agenda in the Arab region, through the "Regional Arab Implementation Meeting" (RIM), held on 29 and 30 May at the Dubai Police Academy. ESCWA had organized the meeting in partnership with the League of Arab States (LAS), the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Environment and Water, the UN Environment Program/Regional Office of Western Asia (UNEP/ROWA), and the Zayed International Foundation for the Environment.
24 July 2019	UNSG report on the Israeli occupation in Palestine and the Golan: Continued violations against Palestinians and the illegality of the annexation of the Syrian Golan	Beirut, 24 July 2019 (ESCWA)--In a periodic report, the United Nations reiterated the illegality of a number of Israeli policies and practices in the Arab territories occupied since 1967, some of which may amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity. Such policies and practices include discrimination, collective punishment, forcible transfer, and the excessive and unlawful use of force.
