Deputy Transport Minister of Yemen Visits ESCWA, Meets Executive Secretary |
ESCWA Executive Secretary Mohamed Ali Alhakim received on 29 August 2017 Deputy Minister of Transportation of Yemen Nasser Al Sherif at the UN House. The two sides discussed cooperation in the field of transportation between ESCWA and Yemen and ESCWA’s contribution to the government of Yemen in terms of technical cooperation. The ambassador of Yemen to Lebanon Abdullah Abed AlKarim AlDeis and ESCWA Regional Adviser on Transport and Logistics Yarob Badr also attended the meeting. |

Tallawy To Visit South Lebanon Next Week |
UNESCWA Executive Secretary Mervat Tallawy will be visiting the South of Lebanon on Thursday 12 October 2006, heading a delegation of senior staff members including chiefs of divisions and several experts. During her visit, Tallawy is expected to reveal the nature of the assistance that UNESCWA will be providing to the South in the next stage. Tallawy will conclude her trip with a stop in the town of Qana to visit the shrine of the victims of the massacres and partake iftar with its inhabitants. |

Training on "Women's Role in the Political Process" |
UNESCWA's Centre for Women in partnership with the Woodrow Wilson International Centre for Scholars organized the training. The objective of training was to increase women''s political participation in Iraq, identify gaps in programs, discuss strategies for fostering empowerment and develop a plan for coordination and cooperation. 25 politically active Iraqi women attended the training, including the Iraqi Minister of State for Women and two members of the Iraqi Governing Council. |

This paper looks at non-state provision of basic healthcare services, seeking to highlight the benefits and the risks that emanate from non- state provision of social services. It largely draws on case studies of Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Sudan, and Tunisia. Papers covering education as well as water and sanitation are planned to follow.

This document provides specific guidelines for Arabic Domian Names System (ADNS). However, these guidelines can be used to facilitate systems in other languages that use the Arabic script, particularly Farsi and Urdu. Within that context, ADN-TF is prepared to cooperate with experts from the Farsi and Urdu communities in order to address linguistic, organizational and policy issues in an interoperable manner. |
