Regional Commission Launches Report on Survey of Economic and Social Developments |
Beirut, 13 December 2017 (Communication and Information Unit) –ESCWA Deputy Executive Secretary Khawla Mattar today said, “The ESCWA studies should now be followed up on the ground especially that in the last few years conflicts have been mounting in the region. We are not only afraid of what is happening today but also of what would happen tomorrow because of the economic and social roots of conflicts.” |

E-forum on Participation and Consensus Building |

While the initial objective of the Arab uprisings was to pressure their long time rulers to step down, Arab citizens also demanded their rights to dignity, social justice and to participate in the making of their futures. Applying IWRM Principles in Managing Shared Water Resources: Towards a Regional Vision |
The international community has been seeking to establish legal frameworks for improving the management of shared water resources. For instance, the Convention on the Law of the Non-Navigational Uses of International Watercourses, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in May 1997 (but not yet in force), and the draft articles of the Law of Transboundary Aquifers, which were reviewed by the UNGA in December 2008, propose legal frameworks for managing shared surface and groundwater resources based on international water law principles. |
